August Board Meeting Preview AND A New Board Governance System for 2017-2018

The August Board meeting will take place this Monday, August 14th.  The Curriculum and Ed Tech Committee starts at 4:30 and the Work Session session begins at 7:30.  Both meetings will be held in the district office and will be stream live via You Tube on our website.

Key Items for Discussion

  • Curriculum
This month the Board will review curriculum work done over the summer to implement previously approved curriculum changes.  Also, this year Math, Language Arts and World Languages are each in year 2 of the Curriculum Cycle - teams have been evaluating these programs and will be bringing updates to the Board throughout the year.

  • School Start Times
The Board will be briefed on the status of all the work that has gone on over the summer to implement the new school start times.  Much work has been done to get the logistics set up to insure a smooth transition and the Board and Administration will be monitoring progress closely throughout the year.

  • New Immunization Requirements
The state has updated immunization requirements.  Students will need to meet the new requirements before being allowed in school.  Communications have gone out to all parents defining the new requirements and this month the immunization policy will be updated to reflect these changes.

  • Facilities Update
The Buildings and Grounds folks have been busy installing new roofs, upgrading HVAC units, paving parking lots and more.  Learn more about the maintenance and upgrades to you schools.

New System

More details on these agenda items and other Board business are now available online through a new system (BoardDocs).  This new state of the art cloud-based system brings together Board agendas, documents, policies, minutes and meeting videos - making them available online and 24/7 to anyone.  This dramatic improvement in access and transparency provides a basis for better and more open dialog with all stakeholders in our community.

The built-in document search feature of this system provides public access to the entire library of public documents, allowing all stakeholders to evaluate policy, guidelines, committee works and Board deliberations on any topic.

More about BoardDocs

The board management solution, called BoardDocs Pro, has been adopted by leading school districts across the nation, providing them with the fastest, easiest and most powerful paperless agenda solution on the market. Leveraging state-of-the-art technology, BoardDocs Pro does things no other board management solution can, for a price no other solution can match. BoardDocs Pro adds the most powerful board management tools ever created, including Comprehensive Meeting Management, Policy Management and a Multi-purpose Library, plus powerful and intuitive Workflow.

BoardDocs uses a structured, collaborative Workflow that is specifically designed to meet the unique needs and legal requirements of public school boards, county commissions, municipal governments and a wide variety of other types of governing bodies. Additionally, through the MetaSearch feature, members of the governing body will also have access to best practices from other organizations that are using the system, allowing them to gain important knowledge about initiatives other governing bodies have considered and implemented.

Electronic distribution will not only save time and resources, but it will also provide unprecedented public access via UCFSD’s Web site to agenda items and other board-related information. This process will allow interested parties to review information prior to meetings. After the meeting, individuals can review the agenda items and see what action the board took, complete with voting results. All documents associated with the meeting are automatically archived and can be accessed by date or by using the system’s comprehensive Search feature.
