June Meeting Recap


Meeting Date: June 16th, 2014
The meeting started with Principal McLaughlin playing a video tribute to Grace Frunzi, winner of this year's Citadel Heart of Learning Award.
Paula Massanari recognized UHS teacher Ann Schott and paid honor to her for her 35 years in public education.  Ann is retiring at the end of the school year and will be missed.

Board Split on Vote for New Director

The final vote did not result in a majority and so another vote is scheduled for July 14th.
Four candidates applied for the vacant school board director position (Region B).  One of the applicants has withdrawn (Mr. Arnie T. Klingenberg).   At last week's working session the candidates were interviewed.  The interview video and applications are available for public review and comment on the district website



Final 2014-15 Budget Approved

The vote was unanimous and will result in an average 2.6% school tax increase. The approved budget and specific millage rates can be found in Board Docs - documents 6A1 and 6A2.


New Chadds Ford Principal

The vote was unanimous and Shawn Dutkiewicz is the new principal at Chadds Ford Elementary School. He comes to us from Pennell Elementary in the Penn-Delco School District and he will begin at CFES starting June 27, 2014.

UHS Removed from Nation School Lunch Program

Changes in the National School Lunch Program will take affect next year.  UHS will opt out of the changes.  The offerings in the UHS cafeteria will continue, as they are now, to be guided by the district's Wellness Policy which encourages healthy eating while maintaining flexibility in the food and beverage choices at school.  The elementary schools and middle school will remain on the National School Lunch Program.

2014-2015 Goals Set
Goals for next year include a continued focus on student achievement, safety and health.  An action plan will be developed to evaluate and direct our STEM education program, and another action plan will be developed focused on driving greater community involvement.
