The approved contract is for one year and includes some innovative features designed to allow the district to manage costs while providing employees with excellent health benefits. Some of the features include a 2% raise, modified medical coverage, a different plan for new hires, a nicotine premium and a working spouse provision.
Grace Frunzi - Citadel Heart of Learning Award Winner
Grace Frunzi, elementary school special education teacher at Pocopson Elementary School, earned the 2014 Citadel Heart of Learning Award for Elementary School Teachers. The Citadel Heart of Learning Award program was created in a joint effort by Citadel and the Chester County Intermediate Unit to recognize and honor excellent teachers throughout the county.
Leah has been working in UCFSD for several years, first as an IU employee and then a district employee. Members of the board praised her work, dedication and insight and wanted the public to know that UCFSD looks to hire the best and have every confidence in Leah.
New State Mandated Teacher Effectiveness System
A new teacher evaluation system has been reviewed with the board. The new mandated system (part of the Teacher Effectiveness System in Act 82) takes into account several factors such as student achievement and growth as measured by PVAAS (Pennsylvania Value Added Assessment System), SLOs (Student Learning Objectives) and other factors. Members described the the new teacher evaluation as a "sea change".
Teacher Contract Amended with Medical Benefits Opt Out Provision
The provision (provided for in the first year of the current contract) allowing teachers to opt of medical coverage and receive a lump sum payment instead has been extended. The measure is intended to provide teachers options while helping the district manage long term medical costs.
School Board Meeting Calendar Approved for Next Year
Next year's calendar remains much the same with meetings on the second and third Monday of the month with some changes in location.
Community Conversation on Chadds Ford Trail Set for June 2nd
The board has asked the Brandywine Conservancy to engage with the public and explain their ideas for use of the Brandywine Trail near Chadds Ford Elementary. A Community Conversation is set for June 2nd. The meeting provides an opportunity for learning and to provide input. Board members will attend to listen and they encourage the public to come out and voice their opinions.
